Bringing your writing projects to life

HB Creativity is a full-service writing company.  Our award-winning authors offer workshops that meet the needs of both aspiring and professional writers.

Our other services include manuscript evaluation, editing and coaching for writers.

We are based in St. John's, Canada's easternmost city, and are Newfoundland and Labrador's premier writing company.

Our mission statement:  Our mission is to become genuinely involved in our clients' writing projects, helping them hone every aspect of their work.  Thus our workshops will be small with a maximum of eight clients in half-day workshops and six in five-week and Level 2 courses.  We do not cancel workshops.  With this kind of small community of writers, we feel a sense of investment in each participant's work-in-progress; this sense of investment rarely ends with the completion of the course or workshop.

To receive Inkstains, our monthly e-newsletter, please send a request to info@writingworkshops.ca

We are located at Suite 201, 223-233 Duckworth St., popularly known as Haymarket Square.  We also offer writing workshops and tutorials via distance.

Paul Butler is the author of the critically-acclaimed novels NaGeira, Easton's Gold, Easton and Stoker's Shadow. He has won numerous Government of Newfoundland and Labrador Arts and Letters Awards and his work has appeared on the jurors' lists for Canada Reads.  Paul's latest novel is Hero (Nimbus, Halifax, NS).

Maura Hanrahan Ph.D. is the author or co-author of eight books in several genres.  Tsunami: The Newfoundland Tidal Wave Disaster, her 2004 work of creative non-fiction, is a national bestseller and won the Heritage and History Award.  Her short fiction and travel writing have won awards in Britain, Canada, and the U.S.  Maura's latest book is Spirit and Dust: Meditations for Women with Depression (ACTA Publications, Chicago).

This fall, HB Creativity is pleased to welcome acclaimed writer Susan Chalker Browne.  Registration has already begun for Susan's Nov. 20 workshop, Writing Stories for Children. Based in St. John's, Susan Chalker Browne is an award-winning writer of nine books for children, including Freddy’s Day at the Races, The Land of a Thousand Whales, and Goodness Gracious, Gulliver Mulligan.  Her latest book, Freddy’s Hockey Hero, has just been released.
